7 Affirmations For The New Year
New year new you? Nah me neither!
I like the idea of using the new year to focus my mind on things that I want to do, but I’m not about trying to completely change myself and set unrealistic goals. For that reason, in this post I will be talking about setting positive affirmations instead of resolutions.
How many times have you set yourself resolutions on the first week in January, only to have stopped doing them within a week? This then often leads you to feeling demotivated, negative, and like you’ve failed. By attempting to set yourself up for having a good year, it typically ends up ‘going bad’. This is where the mind shift of having affirmations for the new year is more positive.
So, what is a positive affirmation? They are “positive phrases or statements used to challenge negative or unhelpful thoughts” (source). Saying your hopes, dreams and goals into the universe puts no pressure on yourself or your mind. Even if you decide that you want to give yourself small tasks in order to help you achieve those affirmations, that’s a much more positive and attainable way to look at the year.
Here are some of my positive affirmations for 2022. Are yours similar? Or have you got completely different goals for the year? Let me know in the comments below.
1. I start the new year, and every day, sending and receiving love & peace
2. I choose to find happiness in every single day
3. I feel healthy, fit, and full of energy
4. I make plans, visualise my goals, and move towards accomplishing them
5. I am optimistic about what’s to come
6. This year will be full of positive changes, and I am ready to welcome them with open arms
7. I am powerful. I am consistent. I am strong. I am open-minded. I am in control. I am enough.
One wonderful way to visualise those affirmations is to create a vision board. I loved creating mine and currently have it as my iPad wallpaper so I can be reminded of the positive energy every day. I’d love to see yours – so please share them on Instagram and tag me!
And let me know your positive affirmations for the new year in the comments below.

If you were following me on Instagram before I took maternity leave, you’ll know that I used the phrase “self-care isn’t selfish” quite a lot - because it’s true! Taking proper care of yourself is vital (whether you’re a Mother or not). If you aren’t okay, then it’s impossible to show up as your best self in whatever capacity you need to.
You know that I never need an excuse to give myself some extra self-care or a pamper. But if you do, what better excuse than Galentine’s Day?!
If you’ve never heard of Galentine’s Day, it’s a day to celebrate yourself, your friends and any other women in your life and show them some love. Galentine’s Day first started thanks to American sitcom Parks and Recreation.
There are so many ways you can celebrate Galentine’s, but obviously my go-to is to have a self-care pamper evening. Read on to hear some of my favourite products for a pamper day and some products I’d love to try!
If you could see inside my bathroom drawers, you’d be convinced you were actually in The Body Shop…
I’ve been buying The Body Shop products for many many years as *spoiler, I bloody love them!!
If you’ve never heard of The Body Shop, it is a body care and makeup brand with a massive belief in ethically sourced and natural-based ingredients. They have an array of signature products & scents and often introduce new scents for different seasons.
Your mental health is so important, always. But this is always highlighted even more so every World Mental Health Day (which is today).
It’s so easy to focus on mental health as just being the diagnosed conditions (e.g., depression, anxiety etc.). Obviously, it’s vital that you look after yourself if you do have these and speak to a health professional if you think that you might. But everyone has mental health, and everyone needs to look after theirs.
I’ve said this so many times before, but self-care isn’t just doing a face mask, having a bath & drinking a cup of tea (although I do love doing this). Sometimes the best form of self-care is doing those tasks that you keep putting off. You know that once you do them, you can stop worrying. But for whatever reason you just continue to put them off.

Christmas is my favourite time of year! There are so many reasons why I love Christmas (which I’ll talk about in this post) but no matter how the festive season goes, it always makes me feel warm & fuzzy.
In terms of New Year, I still feel like this is part of the festive season and its often another reason to spend time with loved ones and all the other things that I love about Christmas.
We often put so much pressure on ourselves at Christmas & New Year to go to all the parties & special events and see every single family member & friend. But it’s still so important to look after yourself at this time of year to avoid burnout.
There are various reasons why we sometimes just need that extra bit of self-care. During your period is a great time do to it as your body is wanting to take it slow and to just get through it.
Realistically, we can’t take the whole week off every time we have a period (although sometimes I would love to). But that doesn’t mean that we have to sit and suffer while we go about our everyday lives.
At first glance at this blog post, you may find it a bit odd. Why, on a blog where I promote that it’s okay to be lazy, am I writing a post about how not to be? As much as I am all for being lazy and listening to your body more – sometimes, we just have shit to do.
Spring is finally here and like many, I find myself crawling out of hibernation, bleary eyed and overdue a holiday. And as I emerge, almost a year since the novelty of WFH began, I find myself asking, ‘What have I learned?’
That relaxing is hard.
Seriously. How ridiculous does that sound? It’s hard to do nothing? Hard to chill out, put your feet up, switch off?
Taking a break from social media and technology in general is super important for our mental health & life in general. It’s so easy to get distracted by the internet and not concentrate on spending time with the people around you or yourself.
Sleep is so important – yet I know that lots of people don’t have the best night’s sleep (me included).
My sleeping needs are very different to my other half, so that does have a negative impact on my quality of sleep – but it is something that I am working on changing and improving.
So, here are tips on how you can have a better night’s sleep – let’s work on this together.
Life can be a bit shit sometimes right? Especially the last few months. There’s so many things that you can do to cheer yourself up when you’re feeling like this. So, I’ve created a list of ten things that you can do to help cheer yourself up and without having to spend a money! Enjoy!
I’ve been planning this post since long before this solo blog was even an idea. But I just struggled with what to write. I realised that this was because I rarely actually pamper myself or look after myself in any way. Therefore, I’m trying to make more of an effort to do this and put myself first. I probably should have done this more during lockdown – but as I said I’m not always the best at looking after myself – but I am working on this🧡
After chatting with a colleague of mine recently, we started talking about how inspirational quotes impact us in a positive way. I love a quote, so I thought that I would do some research into why we as humans tend to love a quote and how it can impact us. So, shout out to Steve for the inspo🧡
After the popularity of my recent procrastination post, and people asking about some of the tips that I mentioned, I thought that I would create this post about how I stay organised.
When it comes to work, I’m always super organised. I work as a receptionist in a youth club and always bring in my own notebook to write pretty much everything down. My colleagues find it funny, but it’s come in handy when we all forget any passwords or other important notes😂 I have terrible memory, so if I didn’t write things down I would never get anything done or remember to pass on messages to the right people😂
I’d just like to mention that I procrastinated A LOT while writing this post as I ended up looking at crime stories – I blame Bailey Sarian as I was watching her at the same time (see previous blog post). Plus, I definitely procrastinated doing it for reasons that will be mentioned in this post.
Let’s just start by saying that I know a lot of people procrastinate. It’s just something that we as people do. So, I thought I would do some research into the subject so we can delve into why we procrastinate. I definitely learnt a lot about myself writing this post.
It’s no secret that I love a good pamper; although I don’t actually do it very often. But one thing that I do do often is showering (naturally…). So, I’ve gathered my current shower products together and put it in a blog post. I’ve also listed it in routine order. I don’t use all products for every shower – but this is a full list.
I’m not sure if this is very interesting, but I’ve enjoyed looking at what products I use and how often I change it up.
I’m going to begin by stating that it is okay to have a lazy day (or 5) every now and again. I have so many lazy days that you may even call me a professional.
Everyone has their own difficulties and challenges in life that they sometimes need a break from. No one should feel bad for having a day off to recuperate.
Hello! I’m Cerys, a Welsh lass currently residing in the wonderful city of Liverpool. Join me for a cuppa and a natter. My content is the “lazy girls’ guide to self-acceptance, self-care and empowerment”.
The new year often brings the desire to set resolutions. Some people are great at sticking to them, others give up after a few weeks.
I was starting to find that if I was starting to “slip” with my resolutions I’d end up feeling bad about myself, rarely without taking the reasons for it into perspective.
So, when creating an “ins & outs” list started to become more popular, I realised that this suited me much better. It wasn’t a strict list, it was something to help you become your best self.
