My 21st Birthday
Edited April 2020
I’d like to begin this post by thanking everyone that made my 21st birthday special. Whether you were with me to celebrate, gave me a card or even wished me a happy birthday on Facebook, it all meant a lot to me.
I’d originally planned to write about all of the funny stories and chats that we had. But, honestly, I think that it’s better to keep them between those that were there. However, I will share a few things and some funny photos that I’m more than happy to share…enjoy!
On my actual birthday we went for food at the Baltic Market. It’s one of my favourite places to go and offers something for pretty much everyone. I had a bratwurst hot dog from Get Wurst and it was amazing! Although this is the only photo that I managed to get…
Thank you Jack for this really flattering photo of me…
Obviously, I couldn’t go to the Baltic Market and not have halloumi from Hafla Hafla. I’m going to be so sad when they’re no longer there. For dessert a number of us had hot cookie dough from Midnight Delivery. Quite frankly it’s one of the best things that I’ve ever had!!

Look how happy we all were after stuffing our faces
The day after my birthday we went ‘out-out’. A group of my friends came over for party food and drinks before heading into town.
Big shout out to Matt and Jack for decorating the living room while I got ready, I loved it!!
On the night out there was tears and bickering like always. But more importantly there was fun and laughter. I had the best birthday and I’m so happy that I got to share it with this amazing bunch! Although a number of my male friends tried to steal my boyfriend off me, so thanks guys…hahaha!
I think the best thing to do is just share some of the weird and wonderful photos of that night. And well done to the boys for smashing the karaoke, I loved it!
*Most of these photos were taken on a film camera, hence why I look even paler than usual. Who knew that could happen?

As you may know, a number of us here at Coffee With Cerys HQ are Mothers. Cerys and Jenny both have 2.5-year-olds (fun fact: they’re only 3 days apart), Beth has an almost 2-year-old, and Charlie has a 4-year-old, a 2-year-old, and one on the way! We’ve all got a few years of experience, but it’s also still fresh in our minds. The group chat has been filled with chat about what we would have liked to have known before having children and what we have learnt since - so obviously we decided to make it into a blog post.
*TW: Discussions of sexual assault
If you haven’t already figured by the title, with this week being Sexual Abuse & Sexual Violence Awareness Week in the UK, this post will be focused on my own experience of sexual assault and rape, and my journey with learning to know who I am again since. So this my note to you now that if this is something you don’t feel in the headspace to read about then please stop here and know that I am always available for a message if/when you ever need a stranger to talk to/ scream at/ bitch with etc.
Making friends as an adult compared to when you’re a child are two completely different experiences. As a child I remember so many situations where one child would go up to another, announce that they were now friends and that was that – friendship created! I’m not so sure that this would go down as well as an adult…
Something that has been on my mind a lot recently is “when am I going to see my friends & family again?” I’ve been long-distance with my family & friends since I moved to Liverpool for university nearly 5 years ago (& my boyfriend for a period of time). And even though I definitely don’t see them all enough, the lockdowns have made it even more difficult.
So, I asked some lovely ladies that I know about their experiences of long-distance friendships – so, here are their stories.
This is quite a tough post for me to write as it’s something that I’ve struggled with for a really long time.
So, let’s talk about choosing passion over perfection.
During lockdown so many people have turned their hobbies into a business, and I think that it’s incredible!! If you love your hobby enough to take it full-time and start earning money – to me that’s absolutely amazing! However, I do sometimes feel that there is a sense of pressure that if you’re good at something you must start selling it and making money – because money is the only thing worth doing anything for… Obviously, if you want to pursue your hobbies and make money from it – then definitely go for it! But if you want to keep your hobby as a hobby then do it!
If you know me, then you’ll likely know that I talk about boobs a lot. I’ve struggled with body confidence throughout my life and always had such a negative view of most of my body. However, I’ve pretty much always loved my boobs🧡
Whether you have big boobs, small boobs, perky boobs saggy boobs – whatever your boobs are like they’re great! And I’m yet to find anyone that disagrees😂
Throughout my time in education I was so often asked about future career plans and the prospect of starting a family – and this is often asked in the form of making a choice. Will I pursue a career, or will I start a family? It never seemed to be offered as a joint package.
So, let’s talk about that. Personally, do I want a career, or do I want children? The answer…
In order to help keep the blog exciting, it was decided that members of my friends and family could write guest posts and I would publish them. The first one is by my friend Lizzie. Lizzie is an amazing writer and I can’t wait to work with her again. The rest of the guest posts won’t have this awkward introduction, but I felt it important to introduce this series to my readers – enjoy!
I’ve put off writing a blog for quite some time. I remember talking to Cerys about writing a blog probably a year or two ago (drunk in the girls’ toilets because who goes to the toilet alone???) – it seemed like something that I would enjoy, and I love talking about my experience of what being a working-class student at a top University is like. I just couldn’t seem to write anything down. Today, is the day that I finally plucked the courage to write something and share something I felt a lot of people could resonate with.
Hello! I’m Cerys, a Welsh lass currently residing in the wonderful city of Liverpool. Join me for a cuppa and a natter. My content is the “lazy girls’ guide to self-acceptance, self-care and empowerment”.
This post has been a long time coming. I’ve had this idea planned for months, but when it’s come time to sit down and write, my mind has gone blank.
April is Caesarean Awareness Month, and it’s the push I needed to get all of my thoughts out. I’m still processing what the birth of my toddler was like as it is so contrasting to the relaxed pregnancy I had with him. This is in no way an anti-caesarean or anti-induction post. It is just my experience, my perspective, and hopefully something that can bring you comfort if you went through something similar.
