The Beginner’s Guide To Self-Acceptance – Part 2

Being okay, and even happy, in the body you’re in still has such a distance to go before being seen as ‘normal’ and ‘socially acceptable’. I don’t particularly care about these things, but they can make things a heck of a lot easier.

Self-acceptance is definitely a journey - & it can be a particularly long one – but it’s such an important one. Our bodies are such incredible things that help us live our lives each day. And our mind is even more wonderful – the ideas, creativity, imagination and so much more that it allows us to do is quite frankly mind-blowing.

Learning to accept yourself can be hard enough without the pressure of other people. Worrying about what other people think and listening to their negativity isn’t going to benefit you. Obviously, it’s not that easy but focussing on you and your journey is the most important.

So, here’s some more tips for practicing self-acceptance.

Unfollow Accounts That Don’t Make You Feel Good
Some people find unfollowing people on social media a really hard task. They’d rather mute them or just continue seeing their posts rather than unfollowing.

There is such a negative stigma around social media. But I think people’s use of it has an impact on that. If you continue to follow & interact with accounts that make you feel bad – sorry but that’s on you…

The person that you follow could be the loveliest person ever. But if every time you see them pop up on your feed you feel bad about how you look & you start comparing yourself negatively – you need to unfollow them. It’s all about curating your feed to bring you joy and inspiration – not negativity.

I’ve had so many discussions with different people about this, so I could go on forever. But the point is – if their account doesn’t bring you joy, please unfollow them.

Remember That It’s A Journey
Just because you’re having a bad day, that doesn’t mean that all of the hard work that you’ve put in & the progress that you made is wasted.

Self-acceptance isn’t a destination. You don’t complete six tasks and at the end you reach complete self-acceptance – unfortunately, it doesn’t work like that. You will have good days and bad days, amazing days, and awful days – but each day that you wake up and try to do something positive for yourself is a step in the right direction.

There are lots of people on this journey to, so you’re not alone! And if you ever feel like you are, please send me a DM and I will help in any way that I can.

Learn To Let Go Of The Things You Can’t Change
This can be such a difficult thing to do and one that I am definitely not very good at doing.

We put so much pressure on ourselves to be the best that we can be 24/7 and have control over everything. But that’s just not possible. Whether that’s having a random sad day, other people’s comments, your morning train being a late or a whole host of other things that we can’t change. We need to embrace it and find a way to work with it.

Focus on the things that you can change within situations – the number one thing usually being your mindset. Again, this isn’t easy and one that I am trying to figure out myself. But it’s still important.
