Don't Go Chasing Waterfalls

My boyfriend came up with the name of this blog post…I’m so sorry…

Last weekend I took a trip to North Wales to spend a long weekend with my boyfriend and his family & friends. I wanted to learn more about where he lives and just appreciate being back in the Welsh countryside as I miss it so much (I know that I’m from the South and I was in the North, but it was close enough).

We went to the local pub for a drink and to watch the fireworks and just generally had a relaxing weekend.

But, as the name of this post may suggest, we also visited a waterfall and it was utterly breath-taking.

I’d sort of planned to do a ‘day in the life’ type blog post for this. But I just kind of got lost in enjoying myself, so I didn’t take great of photos of the day, so you’ll just have to put up with me chatting about it.

The day began by myself, my boyfriend Matt and two of his friends Chris and Grace going for breakfast at one of Matt’s favourite breakfast places Munchies. We all had some sort of fry-up and a cuppa to set us up for the day’s activities.

After some errands, we all met up again and proceeded to drive to our next location, Pistyll Rhaedr waterfall in Llanrhaeadr. It was absolutely gorgeous!!

Just look at it!

Just look at it!

We stood on a bridge at the bottom for a while; just taking in the views around us. We then decided to walk to the top of the waterfall. Why my unfit and clumsy ass thought that this was a good idea, I’ll never know… Even though I struggled a little, I definitely don’t regret doing it. The views at the top were outstanding.

The area hasn’t been tampered with at all. So, everything is completely natural and that just made it all the better. Although I don’t recommend going anywhere near the edge as it can be slippy and it’s a long way down.

Yeah, don’t copy these pair…

Yeah, don’t copy these pair…

I could have spent hours up there just sat staring at the Autumnal trees all around and listening to the water splashing down below us. But sadly, we couldn’t do that. On the plus side, we were leaving so we could get ready to go for food.

We had decided to go for food at the Smoke Stop. OMG it was so good!! As usual, I got too excited to take a photo of my food and just dived straight in. However, here’s a brief shot of the menu that I took.

The menu was full of BBQ American goodness and I am definitely going back so I can taste more of their food. *hint hint Matt*

I guess the point of this blog post is to show that you don’t always have to travel to exotic places or spend a lot of money to have a good day out. If we’d have gone to the waterfalls and come back and just cwtched up on the sofa with a hot chocolate I would have been equally as happy.

There are some amazing places around the UK that definitely need exploring; whether that’s just a countryside walk or an ice cream on the beach. There’s something for everyone. And often enough, it’s right on your doorstep.

If anyone has any other recommendations of places that I should visit, be sure to drop me a message.

I’m now going to leave you with the views from my time at the waterfall.
